To mark a decade of recognising the importance
of volunteering, The Nationwide Awards for Voluntary Endeavour
has this year been extended to encompass the theme of heritage.
Heritage has many faces, from local museums to biodiversity programmes,
local cultural traditions to architectural digs. All of these facets
of heritage rely heavily upon volunteer support, protecting and
celebrating the rich history and diversity of the UK.
If you would like to nominate someone who you believe deserves
an award, pick up a nomination form from EDVSA or Nationwide Building
Society. All volunteers nominated will receive a certificate to
recognise and thank them for their contribution to the community.
Nominations close on 28th April 2008.
Categories for nomination are as follows:
- Community
- A Young People
- B Groups
- C Individual
- Heritage
- D Young People
- E Groups
- F Individual
The
Awards are judged in the following 12 regions: East Midlands,
East of England, London, North East,
North West, Northern Ireland,
Scotland, South East, South West, Wales, West Midlands, Yorkshire & The
Humber.
Initially, three regional winners in each category will be selected,
making a total of nine community winners and nine heritage winners
in each of the 12 regions.
These 216 regional
winners will each receive an award along with £50
dining out vouchers for individuals or £100 for groups. From
each region, three community and three heritage national finalists
will receive an award, vouchers to the value of £250
and a £500 donation to the charity or cause of their choice,
presented at the regional presentations.
Regional winners and national finalists will be announced in July
2008.
From the 72
finalists, three community and three heritage national winners
will be chosen, one in each category.
They will each receive
an award, vouchers to the value of £500, together with a £2,500
donation to the charity or cause of their choice.
National winners will be announced in November 2008.
