Hundreds Turn Out for ‘Our Place’ Cranbrook Event

Hundreds of people turned out for the ‘Our Place’ Community Event organised by Corena Ward of EDVSA and CHIC (Community Helpers In Cranbrook) on Sunday 29 June.

The event was open to all residents and organisers estimate that over 400 people went down to the Younghayes Centre for a sunny afternoon of food, entertainment and activities for the children. The day also gave residents the chance to have a say in the future of their town.

A wide variety of views were collected to feed into the 'Our Place' Programme of which East Devon District Council and Sovereign are lead partners. ‘Our Place’ aims to give people more power over local services and budgets inCranbrook. EDVSA successfully applied and was accepted into the programme which offers a package of support and grants for neighbourhoods from Government.

Corena Ward said: “All the planned paid off and the event was a huge success. The whole community really got involved in celebrating living in Cranbrook and everyone enjoyed meeting each other and of course the music, food and drink and the kids loved the bouncy castle! Lots of local businesses also took part, the BBQ equipment was kindly supplied by E.ON. CHIC and many others really pulled out all the stops to make the event a success, so thanks to all.

People really engaged and were so positive about the ‘Our Place’ strategy and put forward lot of ideas as to the sort of facilities and services that they would like to see in the future such as space to start businesses, socialise and make things happen.

It really showed the desire of people to get involved in planning the future of their town”

As the 29th June is the anniversary of the ‘turf cut’ marking the start of work atCranbrook (29 June 2011), many residents have suggested the day should become ‘Cranbrook Day’ and celebrated every year!
